Can you spot the error?

20 March, 2010

oops, something's wrong

For those of you following along, these are some of the latest Gemma fonts. Five weights, three widths, Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, & dingbats: moving closer to completion every day.

But today something went wrong with the test fonts. Can you figure out what happened?

HINT: there was only a problem with one glyph in the master file.

First one to guess the bad glyph wins!

    comma?

You are fast Lan! Yes it was the comma!

Bonus points is you can name the master.

(This would have been easier if I had labeled the slides or at least numbered them.)

I have your blog on RSS :)

The master? It looks like all the ultra condensed and condensed ones from regular and upwards have the problem.

  • Rob

Spot on! The bold condensed weight’s comma somehow got a -30683 right sidebearing (I have no idea when/how this happened). This affected many of the other weights, but not all thanks to the other 3 masters being spaced properly.

Thanks for visiting and “playing” Lan! You are a master typographic troubleshooter!

    Do I win anything?

Bragging rights? Mad props? 100 user license for Mota Pixel? I should specify potential prizes better in the future :)

Actually, if you want I’d be happy to hook you up with a free weight of Gemma when it’s released. Just send me an e-mail and I’ll get back to you with the details.

Actually, I’m in the (long) process of making my first fonts. How about I get 3 questions to ask you if I get into trouble.
    No?

That’s cool you are working on some designs! I would be more than happy to answer any questions you might have. Just let me know what I can do for you! I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with. And in the meantime, good luck!
